Hi Remco,
I hope I am not being full-on and I know you are very busy, but I forgot to mention that 'Trans-Media Storytelling' is subtly different to 'Cross Media Marketing', or as I know it, 'Cross-Platform Media Franchising'.
I think the simplest and quickest way to explain the difference is that Trans-Media Storytelling is about extra content, for example, events that take place before and after the main event, like sequels and prequels, via books, film, mini-video games etc, even via apps on-line and social networking such as Facebook and Twitter, encouraging the viewer/player/reader to embrace extra content, thus creating a larger following.
These kind of trans-media narratives can be much more cost-effective too.
Whereas, like you say, cross-media marketing is telling the same story over different platforms.
I have written a piece on Dead Space 2, which includes the Trans-Media effect. It's does not go into too great a detail, given that I was restricted to a word count on the whole review, but there are a couple of paragraphs on the second page that might interest you.
Hope this makes sense, and again I wish to say I am not presuming you don't know this, but I just though I'd highlight what some of the big guns are using today.
