Hi Remco,
I was going to explain it, but then I came across a blog page that explains it beautifully:
http://deanashour.wordpress.com/2011/04 ... rytelling/ Like I say, I am not trying to tell you something assuming you don't know, just wondered if you had looked at Pier the Great from this view-point. So many other games developers and publishers have ventured into trans-media as an afterthought and although have had great success, such as the Dead Space franchise, when I researched this particular area, it stood out how much revenue they had missed out on, due to it being an afterthought. If you look at the time-line below, you will notice the introduction of certain trans-media is in the wrong order.
The Trans-Media Effect Time-Line
1. MAR 2008 - PRESENT: Dead Space is a COMIC BOOK PREQUEL to the GAME: Dead Space: Extraction and the FILM: Dead Space: Downfall.
OCT 2008 Dead Space is a VIDEO GAME that continues where the film left off.
OCT 2008 Dead Space: Downfall is a FILM released 4 days after Dead Space Video Game
SEPT 2009 Dead Space: Extraction is a VIDEO GAME PREQUEL to Dead Space.
The plot takes place before the events of Dead Space, but during the same time as the FILM:
Dead Space: Downfall.
JUL 2010 Dead Space: Martyr is a PERQUEL NOVEL to Dead Space franchise
OCT 2010 Dead Space: Ignition is a Survival-Horror Action Puzzle VIDEO GAME
INTERQUEL, between Dead Space and Dead Space 2.
DEC 2010 Dead Space: Salvage is a GRAPHIC NOVEL set on the Ishimura after
the Dead Space VIDEO GAME events have taken place.
JAN 2011 Dead Space 2 is a VIDEO GAME that continues where Deep Space: Ignition left off.
Released by the protagonist of Ignition, with no memory of the time spent with him.
Hope this makes sense.
