Cross of the Dutchman in the news

Postby Timen » 14 Oct 2011, 09:28

Thought I would create a new topic about CotD in the news, because currently the links are scattered across several topics. So from now on this is the place to drop your links, if you come across some CotD news somewhere.

So I'll start with a TV item on GPTV (dutch):

(Yeah I know, need to fix video embedding...)

And here's another one. Not really news, but a song about Grutte Pier by Frisian rockband N.N.B.

Here's another one:

http://www.slamfm.nl/page/radioweblogdetail/53078

Slamfm, now that's a pretty well-known name. Newssites are really picking up the story now. Hopefully a major newspaper will do the same. It's starting to look very positive! :D

Awesome! Something like Slam!FM not something we're going after ourselves, but it's good to see that the news is interesting and relevant enough that they blog about it!

Nah, didn't even try it... Always a risk with executables :) Besides, it's pointless as I'm buying the original, haha :D

My 8TB server would laugh at 20 gigs... But no worries, as an exception, I'll definitely get the original of this game ;)

Sounds good :) Do the pre-order versions come with a stick-on Pier beard? :D

Dunno why it's called review, but I answered some questions for this article:

Sorry Timen, The Review should have said Preview.

Hopefully all typos are ironed out now. Thanks

No problem, if you promise to do a review too, after we launched CotD ;)

Hi Remco, Timen and team,

Just had a thought regarding the magazine preview, if you have another minute or so in your busy days, and if you, Remco were to post the above comment on my blog, my peers would be soooo envious, and it may help me gain a few, 'Brownie points.'

And if any of the rest of the team think the same, or even have a critism, it would certainly help me.

Oh, and if you ever have any posters, mugs or any other paraphernalia made up, if you send me, say a poster to me, I shall have it put up in the university common room?

I left a message on your blog, hope it helps :-) Oh and we're sure to have some merchandising before we launch, so I'm sure there's something you will like!

Thanks Remco, your'e a star!

Also, I was looking around the internet when I came across this website. The following link will take you to awesome pictures
of a Bidenhänder sword, with some nice information. It might give an insight to the type of weapon Pier and his men were up against?

Hi everyone at Triangle,

I have been looking at lenses over the past few weeks, and although I am not trying to 'teach you to suck eggs' (an English saying for telling you what you already know), have you thought of 'Trans-Media Storytelling'?

I realise money must be tight, it always is, unless you are a corporation like EA, but an animated film-release before the game-release would serve for a wider audience, as well you must know.

Being English, and without the time I put into the research, I would never have heard of 'Pier the Great,' which is a fantastic folk-tail by the way. And Everyone, no matter their ethnic background, is looking for a hero, especially the English; we love our anarchists who buck the system.

Hey Jess, I think we've thought about it, but could you explain a bit more of what you mean exactly with Trans-Media Storytelling?

Re: Trans-media story telling

Postby jess50 » 27 Dec 2011, 01:22

Hi Remco,

I was going to explain it, but then I came across a blog page that explains it beautifully:
http://deanashour.wordpress.com/2011/04 ... rytelling/

Like I say, I am not trying to tell you something assuming you don't know, just wondered if you had looked at Pier the Great from this view-point. So many other games developers and publishers have ventured into trans-media as an afterthought and although have had great success, such as the Dead Space franchise, when I researched this particular area, it stood out how much revenue they had missed out on, due to it being an afterthought. If you look at the time-line below, you will notice the introduction of certain trans-media is in the wrong order.

The Trans-Media Effect Time-Line

1. MAR 2008 - PRESENT: Dead Space is a COMIC BOOK PREQUEL to the GAME: Dead Space: Extraction and the FILM: Dead Space: Downfall.

OCT 2008 Dead Space is a VIDEO GAME that continues where the film left off.

OCT 2008 Dead Space: Downfall is a FILM released 4 days after Dead Space Video Game

SEPT 2009 Dead Space: Extraction is a VIDEO GAME PREQUEL to Dead Space.
The plot takes place before the events of Dead Space, but during the same time as the FILM:
Dead Space: Downfall.

JUL 2010 Dead Space: Martyr is a PERQUEL NOVEL to Dead Space franchise

OCT 2010 Dead Space: Ignition is a Survival-Horror Action Puzzle VIDEO GAME
INTERQUEL, between Dead Space and Dead Space 2.

DEC 2010 Dead Space: Salvage is a GRAPHIC NOVEL set on the Ishimura after
the Dead Space VIDEO GAME events have taken place.

JAN 2011 Dead Space 2 is a VIDEO GAME that continues where Deep Space: Ignition left off.
Released by the protagonist of Ignition, with no memory of the time spent with him.

Hope this makes sense.

Jessica
